2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R
DETROIT. The company said on Tuesday that the 2022 Ford F-Series has continued to dominate U.S. sales for decades despite continued problems with parts and supply chains.
Ford Motor said sales of its F-series, which includes the F-150 pickup truck and its larger siblings, surpassed 640,000 trucks last year, making it America’s best-selling truck for 46 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle for 41 years old.
2022 sales average at least one F-series truck sold every 49 seconds last year.
Despite leading the sales charts, F-series sales are expected to be lower than in recent years. Truck sales in November were down nearly 13% year-over-year, but Ford said last month’s sales are expected to be the best for the F-series in 2022.
Ford sold 726,004 F-series trucks in 2021, down 7.8% from 2020 sales of over 787,400 vehicles. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Ford was selling about 900,000 trucks annually.
Ford has been trying to prioritize F-series production, including its new electric F-150 Lightning, during a series of factory shutdowns due to parts shortages in recent years. The company even partially builds cars to complete them later to continue production.
Ford will report year-end total sales on Thursday, the day after other major automakers report results.
